At 12:14 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023, several 911 callers reported a vegetation fire burning in the open space at E. Otero Ave. and S. Monroe Way in Centennial. Some callers reported the fire to be spreading quickly with structures close by, which prompted a large wildland interface fire response from South Metro. Upon arrival, Local members from Engine 15 observed about half an acre of grass burning on top of a hill and began a direct attack using a progressive hose lay to stop the fire from advancing toward homes. As additional members arrived, a combination of mobile attack with brush trucks and hand tools was used to quickly contain the fire. Members remained on scene for about an hour extinguishing hot spots, the cause is under investigation.
